Influenza pandemics are global outbreaks of influenza that spread
quickly. They cause high morbidity and many lethal cases. This
put a lot of strain on individuals, medical care and society.
To decrease the burden that these pandemics inflict and to make
sure that the functions of society are maintained it is important
to prepare well for such a situation. We believe that preparedness
relies on a solid background of knowledge regarding past pandemics.
Our project serves to deliver information on how influenza pandemics
from the past have affected individuals and society and how they
reacted, on how society, in different times and contexts, have
prepared for future influenza pandemics and what results possible
measures of preparedness might have had to change the effects
of a pandemic.
