Snæfellsnes peninsula, August 12th
From Reykjavík along the captivating shoreline of Hvalfjörður bay on one side and rugged mountains on the other to the farming district Borgarfjörður, the site of Egilssaga. The valleys of Borgarfjörður bear obvious scars of the ice age glacier, that covered the area about 10.000 years ago. We head out to the Snæfellsnes peninsula, to Stykkishólmur where we will board our cruise ship. The boat-tour, is a cruise through the blue waters of Breiðafjörður with its countless islands, rocks and skerries, amazing rock-formations. On this tour we look at rich bird life in Breiðafjörður , characteristic rock formations and other characteristic of the islands. Birds nesting and breeding in the cliffs can be observed from within a few yards distance. Bird species that can certainly be watched are puffins, cormorants, shags, black guillemots, kittiwakes, fulmars and several gull species. Sometimes seals and white-tailed eagles can be seen. Top of the tour is when a dredger us used to scrape the bottom of the sea yields, scallops, crabs, sea stars and several other species of sea animals. Passengers are offered, by the personnel, to taste fresh scallops.. Depending on the circumstances, several natural formations and tidal streams will be observed. Guidance is undertaken by the captain or his assistant or in co-operation with the group's guide. Light lunch will be served on the boat. Arriving at Stykkishólmur we will visit the farm Bjarnarhöfn close to Stykkishólmur where the farmer offers you to taste some Icelandic specialities. On to Hellnar and Arnarstapi, a small fishing community where we'll see beautiful rock-formations at the shore, which are created by the heavy breaking sea. The view to the Snæfellsjökull glacier is magnificent in clear weather. Dinner will be served at restaurant called Skessubrunnur. Homeward bound through fertile farmlands and back to Reykjavík. Duration aprox. 13 hours.

The Blue Lagoon and congress closing dinner, August 13th

We will enjoy a peaceful and tranquil evening at the Blue Lagoon. The Lagoon sits atop a high-temperature geothermal field that supplies hot water and steam to run a power plant. Overflow water from the plant- rich minerals and silica clay- fills the lava lagoon. The water is reputed to have healing effects on skin ailments such as psoriasis, and people come from around the world to seek relief. We will take a dip into this beautiful water in the light summer night of Iceland. Dinner will be served in the restaurant overlooking the Lagoon. Duration aprox. 6 hours.
